Alchemy in the sense of making things out of nothing and also in the sense of how we interpret 'value'. Artists seem to make things appear, images of ideas, they conjure up realities to explore other worlds and ideals. I have been pursuing this notion for some time and expressing ideas within the use of the artists materials themselves. These materials ie, the studio, the pots and paints have become the material that I am using to make works. I am making works with brushes, tables and the arrangement with the studio both as objects and as a celebration of the creative and artistic process.

There seems to be a hidden element in the artists studio within the creative process itself. Not only do works of art become economically valuable they also have a cultural value and a more mystical element relating to how we respond to artworks.

The installation part of the piece originally made in 1989. The work is concerned with the identity of the artist and the changing relationship to his materials; specifically in light of uses of modern technology and image manipulation. Primarily concerned with the use of painting materials within the artists studio. This piece focuses on the paints and brushes as material. The main focus in on the artists table as a workplace and concerns the use, decay and evolution of the materials after the artist has used them.
