"Diversity: The search for the soul of the brilliant city." by Stanza " Diversity by Stanza 2004. I made this during a stay in Shanghai with the British Council Artist Links Program. The title “Brilliant City” refers to the location, a residential estate, comprising of 25 tower blocks in Shanghai, China. The British Council have a flat on the 34th floor, which is where I stayed. Shanghai has 4000 towers block and 2000 on the planning board yet to be made, but with planning permission. Towers blocks are everywhere dancing across the landscape of the city. The city is spreading upwards re-housing poeple in the sky. The city is in flux moving in all directions, economically, socially, and environmentally. For the gallery and installation version there is suite of thirty works from this series, that are re configured for 1024 by 768 screen size. They are built as a piece of software that runs continuosly and randomly. What you see fills the space with moving towers, shifting, weaving over the city. Ideally the work should be shown as a tryptich of projected images, or plasma screens. Diversity was exhibited in Holland in show called "No - Land" curated by Patricia de Ruijter which was shown in Art City in the NDSM. {9th October2007; for one month.} This work is available for exhibition email me to book this installation. Selected prints can be made, contact me if interested in purchasing prints. Diversity is a suitable installation for large corporate offices, hotels etc and is best shown projected large, or on a series of large plasma screens.

"The towerblocks are so complex, and inside full with people with feelings but if you look to the form it's a stony dessert. The idea that you are standing in the window and the feeling it gives you! The attraction it has, to jump in space and how frightened it is at the same time." Patricia de Ruijter
