Stanza artwork, Fictional Cities. Imaginary cities,

Influenced by the situationist position in the city and my interest in urban design going back to my work while at Goldsmiths in 1983 as a student. This artwork is derived from looking as maps of London, Paris, and Chicago. Overlayering maps creates a fused space alluding to new worlds and imaginary cities. These fictional places are hybridised identities of the landscape. The landscape of the map and of the city is reformed becuase of the marks we make. This generative software system is made from hundreds of processed images of maps from around the world to create more fictional cities imaginary cities. Like the flaneur who wanders aimlessly the justaposition of images created in these maps is a recontextualised urban wandering. The new condition of landscape is created by this zygotic mirroring, constantly remaking new cities.

The original artwork Palindromeda can only be mirrored a by twinning process where is each half is actually part of the cellualar zygote. The cell formed by the union of two maps that mirrors in identity and spilts. In the mirror the sequence that reads the same backwards as forwards is created, the palindrome space. This mirroring twinning is determined by the time it takes to split the original. By doing this and merging multiple cities a new space is created which can be called The Third Space.
